Calculating Cost
The Checklist for Calculating Cost* will help you get a better idea about the costs involved in building a home. It will allow you to see how realistic your original budget is and if modifications are needed to cut costs, increase your budget, and/or upgrade on materials (if the estimated costs are well below the budget). The checklist has an area for three bids per item. Gathering bids is a time consuming task, but essential so that you have an educated cost estimate for the entire home, and not just the timber frame.
*The checklist is a pdf file. Click here if you need to download a free copy of Adobe Reader so that you can open the file.
